Update On Tobias

We Are Back!!!

It’s been a while since I have given a detailed update about Tobias and how he’s doing in all aspects of his life.

Tobias started preschool 6 months ago. He goes to a special education preschool and truly loves going! While there he gets services for speech therapy, occupational therapy and physical therapy a couple times a month.

Outside of school, he goes to occupational therapy and speech therapy once a week. He remains delayed in a lot of areas, but his progress continues to grow!! This past January 24th, we celebrated our 4th Moebius Syndrome Day with Tobias.

SPEECH: He is still working on full sentences and has to concentrate and take his time to say a few words in a row. Despite his facial paralysis, he really does enunciate a lot  of words really well! He currently says only 1 or two words at a time. Usually saying the noun or verb that he’s wanting. For example, he’ll say “snack” when hungry and “jumping” when he wants to tell us he’s jumping. I am going to continue to encourage him to use full sentence.

PHYSICAL AND OCCUPATIONAL: Tobias is doing well in this department too! He continues to mostly use his right hand, but will use his smaller hand to assist him when he needs it. He is running, jumping, wrestling his brother, and much more! He is very heavy, flat footed and gets tired really fast. He loves getting his energy out with spinning and jumping on the couch.

ADD?: Something that has been on my mind is how very hyper and inattentive Tobias is. We’ve noticed it at home and the specialist he works with have brought up that he doesn’t hold his attention very long. I’d like to look into this. Maybe he has ADD? I don’t know if that’s a Moebius trait or just one of my family’s. But I’d love to see what non-medicated foods/activities there are for helping him to focus.

Lastly, Tobias continues to be the sweetest child! He’ll never turn down a hug or kiss and is so excited to see any familiar person he comes upon. His love language is touch, for sure! He loves cuddles and resting his smaller hand on the person sitting with him. πŸ’›

That’s all for now!! Thank you so much for reading. I can’t tell you how happy it makes me to see so many people cheer him on!! πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ
